His All-Holiness Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch will attend the ceremonies marking the completion of the restoration of Jesus's tomb this Wednesday in Jerusalem.
Jesus's tomb will be unveiled to the public with a ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Israel, on Wednesday, March 22nd.
The delicate $4milion restoration was carried out by a team of about 50 experts from the National Technical University of Athens, which had previously worked on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey.
Six denominations – Latin (Roman Catholic), Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Syrian Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox and Copts – share custodianship of the cavernous church. The $4m of the restoration came from contributions from the six denominations which share custody of the church, King Abdullah of Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, and Mica Ertegun, the widow of Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun.
His Most Godly Beatitude, Patriarch Theophilos III of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Holy Land, Syria, beyond the Jordan River, Cana of Galilee, and Holy Zion bestowed upon Mica Ertegun the title of Great Cross Bearer of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre earlier this month.
